It's Friday and I've knocked out my short runs for the week. I ran in my vibrams, cutting up moleskin to take care of the pesky seams. Early in the week I realized that my moleskin supply was running low, so I sucked it up and bought some toe socks. At $10 a pair, these had better hold up. I was worried that they wouldn't fit in my vibrams because they already feel snug when I'm barefoot. They felt fine, though, and I made it through the run without any raw spots on my feet. Hurray! I keep running through the thought circle that a lack of bad blisters isn't a good thing but rather a very reasonable thing to expect, but then I remind myself that on the few occasions when I ran in my mizuno shoes without socks I wound up with giant blisters in the exact same spots. Most shoes just need socks, I guess. Pain-free run = an up in my book.
The downside, beyond what I'm about to write below, was that I tripped and fell while I was running. Luckily my palms and joints emerged unscathed, I've got a minor scrape near my elbow and near my knee but I'd say disaster was averted. Still, this counts as a down.
Yesterday I didn't run, but I did walk my 3 miles. I managed to lock myself out of the house with no phone, and proceeded to walk around the neighborhood until my sister came home. Her shift had officially ended a half hour before I locked myself out, but that meant she could be home any minute or she could be home in a few hours. Luckily it was a little after 6 so the temperature had just settled into that cool pleasant early evening range. I walked through parts of my run route and counted ten cats. I picked some figs from our side yard and ate them on a park bench in the vast median near the house. I visited a water fountain a few blocks away. On my third circuit walk, I encountered my sister heading home. Joy! I tagged along with her and a friend for dinner and had fish tacos. The taco shell and rice weren't paleo friendly (yes, I'm doing a modified paleo again), but I had been dreaming about fish tacos for days and I figured that fish tacos are really mostly fish and veggies. Also, did I mention that I had been locked out of my house for two hours? A small morale boost was in order. It was delicious.
Tonight Bobbles arrives for a 10 day visit. Hurray! He's also doing a modified paleo diet, and I know we've talked about running, hiking, working out, and doing Aikido, so it should be a fun and very active week and a half.
