Twist Twist

I'm reading "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan, a book about how out of touch Americans have become with what they eat. Food topics fascinate me. I think I'll spend a Happiness Month on Food. I would like to develop better eating habits, but I also enjoy topics related to food. I like reading books about food, articles about food, blogs about cooking and baking and dietary issues. Spending a month indulging in these interests, maybe trying some new recipes or taking a cooking class, would certainly make me happier. That's not my point, however. My point is this: Pollan dismisses the Lipid Hypothesis, and argues that fat should simply be eaten in moderation, like all other things. I don't know anything about food science or even much about basic biology, but he notes that perhaps there is a reason that you find fat-soluble vitamins in naturally fatty milk. Neat idea! I'm convinced! Totally on board. Back to whole fat milk, for my health.

(While I was in France, I drank a fair amount of whole fat milk and super fatty cheese. Some of the milk came from a milk machine, which I'm pretty sure wasn't even pasteurized; it went from cow to machine to my bottle. It was delicious. A small glass of milk was like drinking dessert, it felt decadent. Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to go back to whole fat milk.)
